Tourist
visas last for 60 days and the maximum number of entries you can apply
for is 4 – giving a total of 8
months in Thailand. You have a 6 month period to use this visa, so your
final entry must be before the expiry date. You have to leave for a period of 48 hours at the end of
each visa but the final entry can be extended by a further 30 days in
Thailand, without leaving the country, at the discretion of Immigration
officials.
Non-Immigrant Visa category ‘B’ must be applied for if you acquire a
business or employment. You will need a letter from an employee or your
lawyer (if you start a business). You will be issued with a single
entry visa only and you must then go to Immigration in Thailand to apply
for a work permit and your multiple entry visa.
Non-Immigrant Visa category ‘O’ is
available for the following purposes: for people visiting family – i.e.
men who are married to Thai ladies or British family visiting
husband working out there. The maximum stay on this visa is 12 months
for a multiple entry (you have to leave Thailand every 90 days for 48
hours before re-entering the country).
This visa can also be issued to
people over the age of 50, providing they can provide evidence
that they have a regular monthly pension going into their bank account,
or sufficient savings to look after themselves, and are able to
repatriate themselves should it become necessary. This should be the
equivalent of approx. £900 per month or £11,000 per annum.
Retirement
visa O-A visa (only issued in London and Thailand and valid for a
minimum of 1 year) is available to anyone over 50 who can prove they
have Baht 800,000 in a Thai bank. You must also supply a report from
your doctor to say how your health is and a police report to show if you
have a clean record or not. You must report to Immigration every 90
days to have your passport stamped.
